Cherry Pie Day Shows Strength of Homeschool Families

Not long ago, Illinois Democrats pushed a bill that would have imposed new requirements on homeschool families, restricting their educational freedom. What followed was something Democrats didn’t expect. More than 40,000 witness slips were filed in opposition, and families showed up in force at the Capitol.

Homeschool families made their voices heard, and they won. It’s a story I continue to tell anyone who wonders whether Illinois can push back against failed Democrat policies and win. Homeschool families proved it.

That same energy was on display again at this year’s Cherry Pie Day.

I had the opportunity to meet with families from the 45th District and hear directly about what matters most to them. Those conversations matter and help shape how I approach issues that impact their ability to educate their children.

Cherry Pie Day is a reminder that homeschool families are engaged and paying attention. When their freedom is threatened, they step up and push back.

I appreciate everyone who took the time to come to Springfield and share their perspective. That kind of involvement makes a difference.

I will continue working to protect educational freedom and stand with families who refuse to back down.
