State Senator Andrew Chesney (R-Freeport) today issued the following statement in response to Governor JB Pritzker’s budget proposal and State of the State Address:
“Governor Pritzker and his far-left allies have had seven years to make Illinois more affordable, and they have completely failed. While the national economy is roaring under President Trump’s leadership, Illinois continues to fall behind in nearly every major category.
“The governor says he has been thinking a lot about love lately. Illinois families know exactly what that means: a love affair with taking more of their hard-earned taxpayer dollars. Instead of delivering real relief, he has jammed through billions in new taxes on gas, electricity, and just about everything else he can get his hands on.
“If affordability were truly the priority, he would stop squeezing everyday Illinoisans, including low-income workers being taxed on their tips. Now Pritzker wants to talk about putting out a fire, but it is one his own reckless policies helped ignite.
“After years of runaway spending and nonstop tax hikes, families are fed up and leaving Illinois behind. The families who remain are stuck carrying an even heavier, more expensive burden. Illinois deserves a governor focused on fixing the mess here at home, not one who is clearly auditioning for the White House.”
