Senator Andrew Chesney Named Most Conservative State Senator in Illinois

State Senator Andrew Chesney (R-Freeport) has been officially recognized as the most conservative State Senator in Illinois, according to the legislative scorecard recently released by the American Conservative Union Foundation (ACU), the non-profit educational arm of the Conservative Political Action Conference Foundation (CPAC), for votes taken in 2024.

Chesney earned the highest legislative score in the entire Illinois State Senate, a reflection of his consistent votes in defense of traditional family values, fiscal responsibility, and individual liberties. The 2024 scorecard analyzed 19 key pieces of legislation, and Chesney’s record stood out for its firm opposition to what he calls “radical progressive overreach” in Springfield.

“If you’ve had coffee with me at a local diner, you already know how I vote in Springfield,” said Chesney. “No double-speak. No excuses. Just common sense, conservative values, and the fortitude to stand up and fight for them.”

Included in the 19 bills that were analyzed in the scorecard are:

  • SB 2690 – Required public universities to waive transcript evaluation fees for refugees from Iraq and Afghanistan, with no similar accommodation for U.S. citizens.
  • SB 3597 – Mandated taxpayer-funded subsidies for clean energy projects, while excluding traditional energy sources.
  • HB 4768 – Prohibited landlords from taking certain actions against tenants who report alleged code violations, a bill critics say infringes on property rights.

Additional bills included in the recent scoring are measures that promote taxpayer-funded abortion, DEI-driven curriculum mandates, and government expansion at the expense of working families.

“At a time when liberal Democrats are pushing a radical agenda in Springfield, I am proud to be a conservative voice of reason,” said Chesney. “We are in an era of identity-based governance, where common sense is replaced with DEI policies and reckless spending.”

As a member of the Illinois State Freedom Caucus, which includes Illinois’ most conservative Republicans, Chesney has emerged as a key figure among lawmakers working to hold the line against progressive policies that he says punish taxpayers, erode constitutional freedoms, and attack traditional values.

“I will never apologize for standing strong against government overreach, woke indoctrination, or reckless spending,” Chesney added. “I didn’t go to Springfield to make friends. I went to fight for working families, defend our Constitution, and stop the madness.”
