Governor Pritzker Announces Intent to Seek Third Term
Last week, Governor J.B. Pritzker announced that he intends to run for a third term in office. Illinois does not place term limits on governors, and Pritzker will be the first to pursue a third term since the 1980s.
First elected in 2018, Pritzker has served as governor since 2019. Since that time, state spending has increased by nearly $15 billion, marking an approximate 40% rise over 6 ½ years. Under Governor Pritzker’s watch, Illinois currently has one of the highest tax burdens in the nation, one of the highest rates of unemployment in the Midwest, the highest levels of outmigration in the Midwest, and he has directed billions of dollars in funding for illegal immigrants.
Senator Chesney Hosts Successful IPASS on Demand Event in Genoa
Thank you to everyone who came out last week for the IPASS on Demand event I co-hosted last week in Genoa with Mayor Jonathan Brust. We had a steady flow of people through the four-hour event and the mobile team from the Tollway provided service to over 175 people.
These IPASS events are incredibly popular and allow motorists to make quick work of switching out their plastic IPASS transponders for the new sticker technology. When additional events are added to my schedule, they will be promoted in future newsletters, and on the Events page of my website.
Still Time to Participate in Senator Chesney’s Summer Reading Program
Summer reading keeps kids’ minds sharp and gives them a head start on their next year of school. There’s still time for students to participate in my 2025 Summer Reading Program.
Students entering first through sixth grade in the fall of this year are challenged to read eight books over the course of the summer. Books over 200 pages may count as two books. Once a student has completed the readings, a summer reading form should be filled out and signed by a parent or guardian. The form can be accessed here.
Completed forms should be returned by August 13, 2025, to the following address:
State Senator Andrew Chesney
50 West Douglas Street, Suite 1001
Freeport, IL 61032
Participants who complete the program will receive an official certificate of recognition from the Illinois Senate and an invitation to a special ice cream party to celebrate their achievement.
For additional information, please contact my district office at (815) 232-0774.
Senator Chesney Provides Legislative Update in Freeport
I had a wonderful time last week visiting and talking with residents from Heritage Woods of Freeport. I provided a short legislative update and took questions from the audience. When I’m not in Springfield I enjoy connecting with my constituents so we can discuss the issues that are important to them. Thank you for the invite!
