Legislative Update from Senator Andrew Chesney

Senator Chesney and Winnebago County Sheriff Gary Caruana to Host Tele-Town Hall Meeting

On Wednesday, September 6, I am partnering with Winnebago County Sheriff Gary Caruana for a 6:30 PM Tele-Town Hall Meeting.

A call will be made to households in the 45th Senate District at 6:30 PM on September 6, and residents will be able to stay on the line and be connected to a live call with Sheriff Caruana and me. Those wishing to join the call can also dial in themselves to 833-589-0764. The dial-in line will not be live until 6:30 PM on the evening of the call.

Those who join the call can choose to just listen to the call, or they can push a number on their touch-tone phone to be placed into a queue to ask a question.

I enjoy Tele-Town Hall meetings because they offer people an opportunity to learn about issues affecting Illinois, and they can ask questions and speak directly with their elected officials. With a multitude of serious issues facing our state, I’m looking forward to a lively conversation on a variety of topics.

Changes at the DMV

On Friday, September 1, all Secretary of State Driver Services Facilities (DMV) adopted new hours of operations, and many are moving to appointment-only for select services.

As of September 1, all DMVs will be open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Only 16 facilities will be open on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Additionally, appointments are now required for driver services at many DMVs, including the issuance or renewal of drivers’ licenses/State ID cards, REAL IDs, and in-car driving tests. Vehicle-related services, such as titles, registrations, or license plate renewals, do not require an appointment. Appointments can be made by visiting ILSOS.gov, or by calling (844) 817-4649.

Please visit ILSenateGOP.org/DMVchanges for more information and to view a full list of appointment-only facilities and a list of DMV sites that have Saturday hours.

Madigan Ally Found Guilty of Perjury, Obstruction of Justice

On August 24, Tim Mapes, often referred to as the gatekeeper to former House Speaker Mike Madigan, was found guilty in Federal Court of lying to a federal grand jury and obstructing the federal investigation into his former boss.

Jurors deliberated for five hours before bringing forth a “guilty on all charges” verdict. Mapes could face up to 25 years in prison for his crimes and will be sentenced in January. Madigan goes on trial for a long list of charges that include racketeering, bribery, wire fraud, and attempted extortion in April 2024.

As a staunch advocate of meaningful ethics reform, I will continue to advocate and push for measures that bring about meaningful real reform to root out political corruption in Illinois.

Chesney to Partner with Stephenson County Sheriff for Prescription Drug Drop-Off Event

In an effort to keep dangerous drugs out of the hands of potential abusers and out of the water supply, on September 9 I am partnering with Stephenson County Sheriff Steve Stovall for a prescription drug drop-off event in Lena.

Senator Chesney’s & Sheriff Stovall’s Drug Drop-Off Event
Saturday, September 9
9:00 AM – 11:00 AM
Alliance Commodities, Pearl City Elevator
4306 W. Galena Road, Lena

Human and pet prescription and over-the-counter drugs and vitamins will be accepted, and those dropping off unused or expired medications can remain in their vehicles while event volunteers collect their items. Liquids, creams, needles, and illegal drugs will not be accepted.

By properly disposing of unused and expired medications, we are preventing accidental poisonings or misuse of drugs, and we are also protecting the environment. I think we all have items in our medicine cabinet that we no longer need, so this is the perfect opportunity to safely dispose of drugs and vitamins and prevent accidental harm. For more information about this event, please call my legislative office at (815) 232-0774, or email Lori at lyates@sgop.ilga.gov.
