State Senator Andrew Chesney (R-Freeport) is pleased to announce that over $510 million in state and local highway improvements are coming to the 45th Senate District through the State of Illinois’ recently-unveiled six-year infrastructure improvement plan.
“Illinois is the transportation hub of the Midwest, and I am pleased to see that maintaining and improving our roads and bridges remains a priority in the 2024-2029 plan,” said Chesney. “A reliable transportation grid is essential to improving economic vitality in this region.”
According to Chesney, the multi-year plan includes over $40 billion to be spread out over all 102 counties in Illinois. The plan invests in all modes of transportation, including roads and bridges, aviation, transit, freight and passenger rail, waterways, as well as bicycle and pedestrian accommodations.
Included in the plan is a Fiscal Year 2024-2029 Proposed Highway and Multimodal Improvement Program, which calls for an allocation of $27 billion for roads and bridges, with $4.6 billion identified for projects in the current fiscal year. According to documents provided by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), the 2024-2029 program aims to improve 3,006 miles of roads and 9.8 million square feet of bridge deck on the state system, with anticipated funding maintaining 738 miles of roads and 1.1 million square feet of bridge deck for infrastructure overseen by local governments.
“The 45th District is receiving a large allocation of funds to improve roads and bridges throughout Northeast Illinois,” added Chesney. “Of the $510 million earmarked for projects in this area, $72.3 million is slated for projects during this current fiscal year.
According to Chesney, $462,099,000 is earmarked for state highway improvements across the 45th Senate District, with an additional $47,961,000 allocated for local highway projects. Click here to view the District 45 breakdown of projects.
